SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD women's rowing team wrapped up the fall regatta season by competing in every woman's collegiate event in the San Diego Fall Classic Sunday morning on Mission Bay. The Toreros turned in impressive performances, racing against local crews from San Diego as well as UC Santa Barbara and Pac-12 squads from USC and Arizona State.

USD's varsity women shined in the women's open 8+ by taking three of the top four spots in convincing fashion. The Toreros' A boat finished with a time of 16:25, followed by USD's B at 16:58, with both boats finishing ahead of SDSU's A boat. USD's C boat took the fourth spot, ahead of all other B, C, and D boats in the race.

"We have been working on improving as a team and our performance showed that the hard work is paying off," said senior captain Taylor Ann Kendzierski.

"In addition to San Diego's perfect weather, our seniors were highly motivated to finish their last fall race with some fast times. It made for a great day of racing," said head coach Kim Cupini.

To gain extra racing experience, the Toreros capitalized on doubling in the women's open 4+ and pairs events. Rowers who competed early in the day raced in fours, finishing in third and fourth behind USC. USD's A boat clocked in at 18:26, not far behind USC's A (18:08) and USC's B (18:06). The Toreros also saw their B boat notch a time of 18:38, which was nearly 20 seconds ahead of USC's C boat (18:57).

To close a great day of racing for the Toreros, the Freshman 8+ won their event by 29 seconds, continuing the tradition of representing USD's depth. Upon the conclusion of Sunday's Fall Classic, the successes of the fall racing will propel the Toreros into winter training. USD is focused on the spring and their pursuit of their fourth WCC title in five years. USD will get back out on the water competitively when they host the University of Minnesota for three scrimmages on February 7-9 on Mission Bay.
