Dylan Covey Taken in Round 4 of MLB Draft

June 7, 2013

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey of the University of San Diego baseball team was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Oakland A's Friday afternoon. This marks the second Torero drafted this season, as Kris Bryant was taken No. 2 overall in yesterday's first round by the Chicago Cubs.

Covey, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher from Pasadena, Calif., was in the Torero weekend rotation all three years he wore the San Diego uniform. Covey has a great end to his career at USD, as he helped lead USD to the WCC Tournament championship and into the NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive season. In his final year with the Toreros, Covey posted an overall record of 5-4, and had an ERA of 5.05 in 76.2 innings of work. One of Covey's best outings this season came in a win over UNC Wilimington, as he allowed no runs on five hits, while striking out a career-high 12 batters in 6.0 innings of work. He also had one of his more memorable outings in his final outing in a Torero uniform, as he helped USD knock off San Diego State in the UCLA Regional. In this contest, Covey allowed just three runs, while scattering four hits in 7.2 innings of work.
