I've been playing volleyball for as long as I can remember. The game has been an important part of my life since I was 12 years old. I'm entering my senior year of college, and this is going to be my final season of competitive volleyball. This season means a lot to me on many different levels.
I spent the last three years at the University of Miami, and this is my first and only season at the University of San Diego. I chose to come be a part of this program for many reasons but their style of play, history of success, great coaching staff, and strength of schedule were all major factors in my decision.
I play to win. I have a competitive fire that I feel sets me apart from a lot of other athletes. I believe in having fun while you play, and with your teammates, but ultimately you're able to naturally have the most fun when you win. That satisfaction is multiplied by beating good teams. This preseason we get to play against great teams like Hawaii, Texas, USC and Iowa State. Not to mention our highly competitive conference play. Opportunities like these much so much to me. The caliber of competition always raises the quality of my play, and I can't wait for us to get out there against some of the best teams in the nation.
I'm excited to play with this group of girls. I've only been here a short period of time, but I've already made some good friends. It's nice to have that sort of friendship and cohesiveness right off the bat. Everyone expects the best from the person next to them and holds each person accountable. That sort of bond and attitude can take a team a long way, and I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can go this year.
I'm originally from Lakewood, California. Having spent the last three seasons in Miami, one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to this season is playing closer to home. I'm looking forward to having some of my family be able to come watch me to compete. I'm also looking forward to playing against some of the familiar faces I grew up competing with.
Most importantly, as I stated before, this is my last season playing competitive volleyball. As competitive as I've been my entire career, I look forward to making this my best season yet. I can't wait to leave everything out on the court, and to help lead my team to as many victories we can achieve. There's nothing more satisfying to an athlete than winning. That's the ultimate goal, and one I've carried with me for my whole life. It's the reason I play the game, and is my main goal for the season - to win.
