SPOKANE, Wash. - The 24th-ranked University of San Diego women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive game of the season, a 79-50 decision to defending West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 15-2 overall, move to 4-2 in the WCC and lost back-to-back games for the first time all season. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 14-3 overall and take over first place in the WCC at 4-1.

Malina Hood led the team with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, while dishing out two assists and pulling down three rebounds. The only other Torero to score in double figures was Amy Kame, who scored 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting form the field, while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. As a team, USD shot 36.8% from the field, and were out rebounded for only the second time all season, 49-40.

In the first half, the Zags went right to work and raced out to a 16-2 lead over the first 4:08 of action, as USD had trouble hitting their early shots. The Toreros would manage to stay within 13-15 points over the next several minutes, before the Bulldogs used a 15-3 run to break the game wide open, taking a 42-19 lead with 3:18 to go. The Zags would manage to maintain that margin heading into halftime up 50-27.

In the second half, the Toreros would not fare much better as the Zags quickly built up 25-point edge and never looked back. USD would trail by as many as 32 before ending the game with a 29-point loss.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, when they welcome Brigham Young University to town for a 2 p.m. WCC showdown. This will be a W.TV broadcast in high full definition.
