SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD men's soccer team (3-3-4) lost to San Francisco (6-2-1) 2-0 Friday evening at Torero Stadium. Despite the Dons being in the WCC, Friday's match will not count towards the Toreros' conference record.
Fresh off an upset of No. 1 UCLA, the Toreros were looking to continue their momentum, but struggled to find scoring opportunities against a Dons team that has now recorded five shutouts in their past six matches.
The Toreros best look came in the 44th minute when senior defender Thomas Fiskerstrand launched a rocket from 25 yards out that bounced off the crossbar. USD and San Francisco both finished with eight shot attempts, but the Dons were able to score twice in the second half to secure the win.
San Francisco's first goal came in the 56th minute when Danny Kirkland found an opening in the bottom right corner of the goal. David Romney sent a header in to Kirkland after receiving a cross from Miguel Aguilar.
The Dons extended their lead in the 74th minute. Kirkland sent a long corner in to Jesus Del Toro who played it centrally to Joshua Smith, who found the back of the net with a header.
Connor Brandt led the Toreros with four shots with three of them being on frame. Torero goalkeeper Thomas Olsen (3-3-4) had one save and took the loss. His counterpart, Chase Hauser, collected four saves in the win.
USD will play at Santa Clara, who tied LMU 1-1 tonight, on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
