SPOKANE, Wash. - The USD men's soccer team (7-4-4, 3-0-0) defeated Gonzaga 2-0 Friday afternoon, keeping them atop the WCC standings. Torrey DeArmas and Kyle Macleod each scored a second half goal as Thomas Olsen and the Torero defense recorded its fifth shutout of the season. The Toreros entered conference play with a 4-4-4 overall record, but have now picked up three straight wins.
Torrey DeArmas broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute. After receiving a pass from Connor O'Neill near the top of the box, DeArmas dribbled to his right before firing a shot across his body that scooted past the Zags' keeper into the right side of the net. DeArmas now has five goals, giving him the team lead.
In the 77th minute the Toreros extended their lead to 2-0. Senior Kyle Macleod scored an unassisted goal, slipping the ball past the Gonzaga keeper into the right side of the net.
Torero goalkeeper Thomas Olsen improved his record to 7-4-4 with two saves as he recorded his fifth shutout. Gonzaga's Chris Lowrimore had one save and was saddled with the loss.
USD finishes up their road trip on Sunday at Portland when they take on the Pilots at 2:00 p.m.
