SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The USD men's soccer team (4-3-4) beat Santa Clara (4-4-2) 2-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. The Toreros scored two goals in a four minute span in the first half and then held the Broncos to one goal on their way to their fourth win of the season.
Senior Josh Cintas, who is in his first season with USD after transferring from Holy Cross, chipped in his first career USD goal in the 21st minute after being assisted by another transfer, Dave Musambi.
Just four minutes later, sophomore defender Parker Price extended the Toreros' lead to 2-0 after sneaking it inside the near post for his second goal of the season. It was the first time since September 12 that the Toreros have scored at least two goals in a match.
The Broncos cut into USD's lead in the 72nd minute when Steve Eneme headed in a cross from Cesar Roch. That would be all the scoring for Santa Clara though as the Toreros held on to win 2-1.
Both team managed eight shots with two coming on goal, but the Toreros made the most of their opportunities. Thomas Olsen (4-3-4) recorded one save and picked up the win.
Like Friday's evening's match against San Francisco, this match does not count towards the Toreros' WCC record. The Toreros and Broncos will meet again in conference play November 7 at Torero Stadium.
The Toreros return to action at home on Friday when they host LMU at 7:00 p.m.
