LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 UCLA Friday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Drake Stadium.
With the loss, the Toreros conclude their season with a 10-8-2 overall record. With the win, the Bruins improve to 19-0-2, and advance onto the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will play the winner of Central Connecticut and Harvard match.
The Bruins got on the scoreboard in the 6th minute of action, as Rosie White took a corner kick for UCLA, and she bent the ball into a crowded goal box, where Abby Dahlkemper headed the ball into the back of the net, to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
Just over a minute later, White was in the mix again, as she took a shot from just outside the goal box, after corralling a pass from Dahlkemper, and it sailed past a diving USD goalkeeper, to move the score to 2-0.
UCLA then put the match out of reach in the 12th minute of action. The Bruins goalkeeper, Katelyn Rowland, sent the ball near midfield, where Taylor Smith picked it up, and she then took the ball all the way to the goal box and scored the goal into the lower left side of the net to move things to 3-0.
USD's best scoring opportunity inn the first half came in the 29th minute of action, as Jacqueline Altschuld fired off a shot from about 18 yards out, only to see the UCLA goalkeeper grab the ball from mid-air, keeping the score at 3-0.
The Bruins then went on to score goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes to put the match at its final of 5-0.
The Bruins outshot the Toreros, 25-3, and held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
McKenna Tollack was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed three goals and recorded three saves. UCLA's Katelyn Rowland picked up the win for the Bruins, as she allowed no goals and recorded three saves.
