Dec. 4, 2014 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Three Torero cross-country runners were named to WCC All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon. Junior Ashton Padberg was named to the ten-person women's team, and Matthew Beasley and Spencer Hoffman earned honorable mention on the men's side.
Padberg boasts a 3.87 cumulative GPA as an international business major. She finished second amongst USD runners in four races this fall and finished 30th overall at the WCC Championships after running a personal best time of 21:27 in the 6k.
Sophomore Spencer Hoffman holds a 3.63 GPA as an accountancy major; he finished in the top three amongst USD runners in three races. Sophomore Matthew Beasley sports a 3.44 GPA as a finance major and posted a top five Torero time in five races. He set a personal best time at the Bronco Invite this fall with a time of 25:26.61 at the Bronco Invite.
To be eligible for the WCC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must own a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of the nomination, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution, and participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests.
