Pac-12 Challenge Schedule
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's rowing team will compete in the Pac-12 Challenge in San Francisco on Saturday. The Toreros will take on Louisville in the morning session, before racing Clemson in the afternoon.
Louisville was ranked No. 16 in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll and Clemson came in at No. 18. No. 3 Virginia, No. 6 USC, No. 13 Stanford, No. 15 Wisconsin, and Oregon State will also be competing in this event, giving USD a chance to see how they stack up against some of the fastest programs in the nation.
The Toreros are coming off a strong showing at the Longhorn Invitational where they finished second, with their 1V8 boat coming in just 2.2 seconds behind No. 7 Yale. USD, who won nine of their ten races against Central Florida and Kansas State, had their varsity boats finish faster than schools such as Texas and Oklahoma, who are receiving votes in the latest Top 20 Poll.
"Last weekend proved that all the training and hours we have been putting in really paid off," senior Jennifer Travis said. "It is difficult to train through the winter months without much competition, but when your entire team does so well against a team like Yale, you realize all those meters you put in were worth it."
This weekend's race will be the Toreros' final tune-up before the Crew Classic next weekend on Mission Bay.
"It is important to understand the difference between confident and cocky, and while we are all so proud of our performance, we know there is still a ton of work to be done," Travis said. "Those Texas races really just showed us all that we are fast, we can be faster, and we can and will be a team that other schools need to watch out for."
