Lake Natoma Invite Results
GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The No. 20 University of San Diego women's rowing team continued to show their speed at the Lake Natoma Invitational Saturday morning. The Toreros kicked off the event with their Varsity Four edging California, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, by 0.9 seconds. Both of the USD Varsity Eights also had strong showings, knocking off Sacramento State to finish second in their heat.
"Crossing the finish like this morning 0.9 seconds ahead of the number one ranked crew in the nation was one of my favorite race experiences yet," Kathleen Petrich, the No. 4 seat of the Varsity Four said after the race. "It made it really clear to me how fast we are accelerating into the top 20 rowing programs of the country. We have set our sights high and our team has really stepped up this year to redefine our rowing program."
The Varsity Four finished in 7:25.2 with Cal coming in at 7:26.1 and Sacramento State finishing in 7:42.8.
"There is no secret to the success of the Varsity Four this season," Petrich said. "We have been working hard every day. We push each other to get faster. The Four is fast because the entire team is behind us, pushing our speed."
