SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Erica Mayer may be the only Canadian on the University of San Diego rowing team, but she's better known as the captain and coxswain; leading the team to their first Division One title, ever. Mayer's story is one of determination, adventure and ambition. The 21-year-old third year mechanical engineering student grew up in Medicine Hat, but found her passion for rowing at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island.

In Grade 9, Mayer decided to pursue her first adventure by attending the co-ed boarding school located 40 km north of Victoria.

"They're known for their successful rowing team there. It's like a coming of age thing to join the team," says Mayer.

She began rowing and fell in love.
