Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team (2-0-3) scored three unanswered second half goals to knock off Bradley (1-3-0) Friday evening at Torero Stadium. After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Bradley rallied to score two quick goals in the second half to tie it up. The Toreros amped up the pace and were able to add three second half goals to secure the 5-2 win.

Junior Darragh Vieyra was a huge reason for the Torero win as he was able to convert two goals, while junior Torrey DeArmas scored a beautiful goal from outside the box, and also gave a nice through ball assist for another goal.

Most of the play in the midfield was controlled by the Toreros, and they were able to create many scoring opportunities throughout the course of the first half. With DeArmas connecting play in the midfield, the Toreros were able to create six shots on goal with two of them finding the back of the net.

After a couple of great saves from Bradley goalkeeper Shay Niemeyer, Parker Price was able to break the deadlock with a shot to the far post from the left corner of the box. He was given a great delivery from DeArmas who was able to skillfully split two defenders with a through ball from right outside the 18-yard box.

Bradley had a great chance at goal when Cody Lofgren sent his shot wide after a one-on-one against the Torero goalkeeper, Thomas Olsen.

USD's second goal came off a beautiful free kick from Vieyra, who sent a bending strike right to the top corner of the goal, leaving the keeper with absolutely no chance. After many substitutions towards the end of the second half, the Toreros headed to halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Despite trailing 2-0 to start game, Bradley came out aggressive in the second half. After an injury sideline Julian Ringhof momentarily, Bradley was able to create two goals in the span of four minutes. Bradley midfielder Andrew Brown converted a header from the center of the area for the first goal to cut the lead to one. Minutes later following a corner, Bradley corralled a loose ball in the box and Jacob Taylor was able to tap in and tie up the game at 2-2.

However, the Toreros responded the best way they possibly could. After conceding two goals, Josh Cintas skillfully juked a defender on the sideline and crossed to fellow transfer student Kyle Macleod, who headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Toreros the 3-1 lead. It was the Macleod's first career goal as a Torero and Cintas' first assist.

The Toreros did not stop there. With constant pressure on the Bradley defense, they were able to pound in more and more shots attempts on the goalkeeper, until Darragh Vieyra was able to score on a corner played by Michael Turner.

Play began to get very physical as Bradley defender Grayson McGraw picked up a yellow card after a strong challenge on DeArmas, who responded with a bullet from the top of the box, which flew into the right corner of the goal.

The Toreros kept their undefeated season intact and improved their record 2-0-3. They are the final undefeated team remaining in the WCC. USD will now prepare to host the #8 in the country, New Mexico, which will be shown on TheW.tv at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14th.
