SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim team had their first competitive action Friday afternoon when competed in a pentathlon against San Diego State at the Aztec Aquaplex. The meet was the first of the season for both squads and gave each team their first chance to get a lot of swimming in in a semi-competitive environment. While the meet was more of a structured scrimmage, SDSU wound up on top by a score of 33-24. The first five events of the day - 100 free, 100 fly, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 IM- were combined to make up the pentathlon, with points being allotted accordingly. The meet concluded with a set of sprints in the 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, and 50 free, and ended with the 500 free.
Jackie Taylor, an All-MPSF honoree last season, posted the Toreros' top time in the 100 yard free, coming in at 52.87. Right behind her was Taylor Noonan (53.90) and Sarah Reierson (54.56). Keenan Lineback swam the fastest USD time in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.76, with Reierson (1:00.20) and Noonan (1:00.22) finishing right next.
Reierson, who was an All-MPSF honoree in both the 100 and 200 backstroke last year, had the top Torero time in the 100 back with a time of 59.43, good for third overall. The next best times for the Toreros were Taylor Noonan (1:02.71) and Kiko Lamb (1:03.06), who was making her collegiate debut.
In the 100 breast, the fourth event of the day, Christina Jonsson had the top time for USD coming in at 1:10.12. Paige Sellers clocked in at 1:11.69 and was followed by Danielle Deiparine (1:12.33).
Reierson had the fastest USD time in the 100 IM as well, with a time of (1:01.66). Noonan and Lineback followed her with times of 1:03.25 and 1:03.33 respectively.
Among the five pentathlon events, Noonan was USD's top performer, coming in with the ninth-best combined time (5:12.91). Reierson (5:13.95) posted the 10th-best pentathlon time, followed by Lineback (5:15.10) with the 11th-best combined times.
Closing out the day were a series of sprints, as Reierson (27.80) and Sammi Cohn (28.29) clocked the top USD times in the 50 butterfly. Reierson (28.60) and Kiko Lamb (29.71) were the top finishers for USD in the 50 backstroke. Reierson also had the top USD time in the 50 breast (32.86), followed by Deiparine (33.29) and Jonsson (33.54). In the final sprint event of the day, the 50 free, Reierson posted another top USD time (25.56), followed by Haley Cahill (26.00) and Lamb (26.80). Reierson posted the top USD time in six of the ten events events
The final event of the day was the 500 free which saw Keenan Lineback take second overall with a time of 5:08.85. Noonan (5:16.03) and Gwen Walter (5:25.19) had the second and third best USD times.
The Toreros return to action October 18 with their annual intrasquad meet before they head to Los Angeles on November 2 for a dual meet with LMU and UC Davis.
