IRVINE, Calif. - The USD men's soccer team (2-2-4) suffered a tough fought 1-0 extra time loss on the road to No. 6 UC Irvine Sunday evening. After shutting out the Anteaters throughout regulation, UC Irvine was able to find the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the second minute of extra time.
The Toreros, who were facing their second top-ten opponent in the past three matches, hung tough with the Anteaters in the first half, matching them at two a piece in shot attempts.
However, in the second half the No. 6 Anteaters managed nine shot attempts to the Toreros' one. Despite the pressure on the USD back line, none of Irvine's shots were on frame, and the match went to extra time tied at 0-0.
Irvine found their break in the 92nd minute when Cameron Iwasa sent a cross into Gor Kirakosyan, who was able to finish on a first touch inside the right post.
The Toreros return home on Friday when they face another top ten opponent, UCLA, at 7:00 p.m.
