Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The USD men's soccer team (1-0-2) tied Sacramento State (0-1-1) 3-3 in a wild road match Friday evening. After Torrey DeArmas put the Toreros ahead in the 86th minute, the Hornets rallied to tie it in the 90th minute forcing extra time and eventually a 3-3 draw. The Toreros attempted 26 shots to the Hornet's seven, but Sacramento State was efficient, scoring on all three of their shots on goal.

Senior Connor Brandt got the Toreros on the scoreboard in the 11th minute when he finished a short lead pass from Dave Musambi. Brandt connected from ten yards out into the far side of the net.

The Hornets answered back in the 26th minute when Chimdum Mez scored on a breakaway from 20 yards out. That would be the Hornets only shot on goal in the first half, and the first career goal allowed by USD's Thomas Olsen. The Toreros held a 10 to four shot advantage in the first half, putting five of their attempts on frame.

Musambi and Brandt teamed up once again in the 50th minute to give USD a 2-1 lead. Musambi sent a short cross in the box to Brandt, who was able to slip the ball to the right of the Hornets' keeper, Philip Bru.

The Hornets tied the match at two apiece in the 82nd minute, kicking off a wild final eight minutes of regulation. Andres Garcia scored on a header after a rebound from a Preston Davis blocked shot, which caused an open net.

Torrey DeArmas answered right back four minutes later with a nice chip shot over the Hornet's keeper. Michael Turner provided the assist, giving the Toreros a 3-2 lead with just over four minutes remaining.

The Hornets' Devante Raynor scored the equalizer in the 90th minute when he headed in a cross from Javier Munoz to force extra time. The Toreros held the Hornets to three shots in the second half, but they were able to connect on two of those attempts.

The Toreros held the Hornets without a shot attempt in both extra time periods, but couldn't find the back of the net either, giving them their second consecutive draw.

The Toreros' road trip continues on Sunday when they play at UC Davis at 1:00 p.m.
