RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The No. 32 University of San Diego men's tennis team completed day two of their series of hidden dual match competition this evening at the Morgan Run Club & Resort tennis facility in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The players were faced to deal with some on and off rain this afternoon, but eventually got off the court at 7:30 p.m. The Toreros found more success than yesterday, including a huge win from sophomore Filip Vittek.

Today's matches consisted of singles play only - with round one's match proving to be a struggle for the Toreros. Junior Uros Petronijevic, who is ranked 53rd nationally, started off this morning with a tough, three-set loss to Texas A&M's 96th-ranked Jeremy Efferding 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

After a temporary break from the weather, round two appeared to give USD a new spark. No. 70 sophomore Filip Vittek picked up his biggest win of 2015, taking down Notre Dame's Quentin Monaghan 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Monaghan is currently tabbed at No. 37 in the ITA rankings.

"Today's match was a huge win for Filip," Head coach Brett Masi expressed. "Monaghan is Notre Dame's No. 1 player and Notre Dame is top-15 in the country. This is a win I hope could help Filip throughout the entirety of the season."

Freshman James Ponwith grabbed his first dual win of the New Year as well, defeating Aggie's Max Montague by a decisive 6-1, 6-1 score.

Although the Toreros have not quite reached the expectation they had hoped for thus far, Masi is confident in what these matches will do for his team. "We knew this weekend would be tough being our first series of matches this season," Masi said. "However, we are playing teams that our ranked top-15 in the country and the guys get to see what it takes to get to that level."

The Toreros return to action for their last day of Hidden Duals tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. - PT.
