SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD men's basketball team (9-9, 2-4) lost to Pepperdine 59-47 Saturday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Toreros were held to 30 percent shooting (19-of-64) and never held a lead after the Waves opened the game on an 11-2 run.

Christopher Anderson scored nine points and tallied a game-high six assists. Marcus Harris tied his career high with nine points. Johnny Dee also chipped in nine points on 3-of-11 shooting.

The Toreros struggled out of the gate, making just one of their first 13 shots and falling behind by nine after the first eight minutes. Freshman Marcus Harris led USD with six first half points and he cut the USD deficit to 18-14 with eight minutes remaining. However the Waves responded with a 13-5 run to open up a 12 point lead with 1:05 left in the first half.

Johnny Dee hit a first half buzzer-beater for the second consecutive game to bring the halftime score to 31-21. Pepperdine's Stacy Davis led all scorers with 13 first half points on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Waves led by as much as 17 points with 8:27 left, but the Toreros put together a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to eight with 5:03 left. However, Pepperdine held off the Toreros' late rally to secure a 2-0 road trip.

The Toreros won the turnover battle 15-6, but were outrebounded 44-31. Pepperdine (11-5, 4-1), who was coming off a big 67-61 win at BYU, were led by Davis' 18 points. A.J. John had eight points and collected a game-high nine rebounds.

The Toreros return to action next Thursday when they play at Saint Mary's at 8:00 p.m.
