Toreros Rally Past Dons

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Behind another double-double from Sophia Ederaine, 16 points, 11 rebounds, and a 19-point outing from Malina Hood, the University of San Diego women's basketball team rallied back from a 12-point first half deficit to claim a 74-69 win over the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at War Memorial Gym.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 17-4 overall, and move to 7-3 in the WCC. With the loss, the Dons fall to 13-9 overall, and fall to 4-7 in the WCC.

Hood led all scorers with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting from the field, and she went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Ederaine recorded her seventh double-double of the season, as she scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while recording six blocks. Freshman forward Sydney Williams recorded a career-high 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the field, in only 15 minutes of action. As a team, USD shot 44.4% from the field, and out rebounded the Dons 39-34.

For the Dons, four players were in double figures, paced by Zhane Dikes, who scored a team-high 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. As a team, the Dons shot 41.1% from the field, and recorded 13 turnovers, while USD only had seven turnovers.

The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they return to the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion to take on Loyola Marymount University in a 7 p.m. WCC game.
