LMU Deals USD a 1-0 Loss

SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Loyola Marymount University Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference match at Torero Stadium.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 3-13-2 overall and 1-6-0 in the WCC. With the 1-0 loss, USD has now had 14 matches this season decided by one goal. With the win, the Lions remain in first place in the WCC at 12-4-1 overall and 6-1-0 in league play. This also marked the first time LMU has defeated USD since the 2000 season.

The Lions scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute of action. Gabbie Sanfilippo crossed the ball over to the feet of Shannon Kent, and she in turn hit a one-timer into the back of the goal, to give LMU the 1-0 victory.

San Diego had back-to-back corner kicks in the second half that turned up both of USD's shot attempts, both headers, one by Caitlyn Kretzschmar and the other by Jacqueline Altschuld, but neither were able to penetrate the goal, leaving the game at its final of 1-0.

San Diego was out shot by the Lions 16-2, and LMU held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Michelle Craft was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed one goal and recorded seven saves. Her counterpart, Charlee Pruitt, was credited with the win, as she allowed no goals and recorded no saves.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as the host Pepperdine University in a 6 p.m. WCC match at Torero Stadium.
