SAN DIEGO, Calif - The USD Swim and Dive team put on a dominating performance against Loyola Marymount on Saturday in the USD Sportscenter pool. The Toreros topped the Lions in 14 of 16 events on their way to a 163-114 victory.
The victory was the third of the fall season for Mike Keeler's team and he is happy with where the team is headed.
"We were really pleased with how our team is continuing to improve and obviously some wins are always good under the belt. We are 3-1 in dual meets this fall which is probably the best fall record we've ever had."
Danielle Taylor led the way Saturday placing first in all three of her individual events and helping win the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.10). Taylor was involved in two of the most exciting races of the day, winning the 100-fly and the 100-free by less than half a second each. In the 200-fly Taylor (2:04.02) managed a slightly greater margin of victory, beating the runner-up by just over a second.
Senior Sarah Rierson also had a great day in the pool with wins in both the 100 and 200-backstroke and also led-off for the winning 200-medley relay team. Freshman Liza Kuznetsova also won two individual events for the Toreros in the 1000 and 500 freestyle.
The combination of youth and experience has paid off early for this year's team.
"We have a good group, a combination of veterans and freshman speed." Keeler said.
Jackie Taylor won the 200-free (1:55.37) and took second in the 50-free (53.11). Bri Jurries won the 11-breaststroke bi four tenths of a second after overtaking LMU's Mary Kate Reid in the final 50-meters.
Mackenna Briggs won the 200-yard IM with a 2:10.20 while Danielle Deiparine took the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:25.14.
Alexa Held and Elizabeth Petty scored 26 points for the Toreros in diving competition. Both freshman posted career-best scores, Held scored 186.82 while Petty landed a 171.22.
Stephanie Jones placed third in the 100-free after recording a 56:63. M.K. Clancy also recorded a third place finish in the 200-fly.
The team will be back in the pool on November 20, at the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette, Ind. USD will not host a meet until January 8, 2016.
