(Lakeside, Calif.) - The USD golf team placed second at the Barona Collegiate Cup with a three-round team score of 845 (-19). Host San Diego State, the 32nd-ranked team in the nation, took home the team title at 833 (-31). Placing third eight strokes back of USD was Sacramento State at 853 (-11). Torero senior Grant Forrest finished in third place alone at 11-under par 205 (68-69-68). SDSU's Xander Schauffele won medalist honors at 17-under par 199 (71-64-64), while teammate Nahum Mendoza III was runner-up at 202 (65-71-66).
Rounding out USD's team scoring was Alex Chiarella (T8 at 209; 69-70-70), Mathias Dahl (T24 at 216; 72-71-73), Will Twitty (T34 at 219; 72-74-73), and Daniel Lopez (T34 at 219; 69-73-77). Two Toreros played as individuals - Colin Pearson (T14 at 213; 69-71-73) and Skyler Finnell (T55 at 224; 75-76-73).
A total of 13 teams and 75 golfers competed in the two-day event at Barona Creek Golf Club (par 72; 7,324 yards). Up next for the Toreros will be the Jones Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University at the Valencia Country Club (par 72, yardage 7,019) over February 23-24.
