SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Paige von Sprecken and Grace Hernandez combined for a four-hit shutout to help the USD Softball team (17-14) knock off Buffalo 2-0 Thursday afternoon. USD is now a season-high three games above .500.
The Toreros were the first to crack the scoreboard. Mary Grabowski continued her hot-hitting with a first inning two-out RBI single to left to bring home Kailey Hill, who reached on a walk.
USD `s next run also came on a two-out RBI single. With runners on second and third in the fourth, Danielle Mavridis hit a single to center. Chloe Kaneko came home to score, but Paige von Sprecken was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
USD only needed two runs as their pitching staff held Buffalo to one hit over the last four innings. Paige von Sprecken (13-5) allowed three hits and no runs in five innings of work, striking out four and walking none. Grace Hernandez picked up her second save of the season, allowing one hit in two innings of work.
The Toreros return to action on Friday when they host Columbia for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is at 4:00 p.m.
