SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-13, 2-6 WCC) dropped a 4-0 decision in a marathon match that entailed long games and three-set contests Wednesday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. Although the Toreros picked up the majority of first sets in singles play, the San Diego State Aztecs (12-10, 2-2 MW) battled back to solidify the victory.

As doubles commenced, the Aztecs picked up a comfortable victory at the No. 3 spot. However, No. 80^th-ranked doubles duo junior Dana Oppinger and freshman Drew Spinosa, were too solid and defeated Aztecs' Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn 6-2. With the deciding match on court 2, SDSU's Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen competed tough and knocked off juniors Marta Stojanovic and Mikayla Morkel-Brink 6-2 to clinch the point. 

In singles play, the Toreros shifted the momentum grabbing first sets on all but one court. Yet, the Aztecs weren't going to go away quite yet. San Diego State's Paola Diaz extended the Aztec lead to two after a straight-set victory at the No. 5 spot. From that point on, the Aztecs continued to come back -- pushing four out of the five remaining contests to third sets.

At the No. 2 spot, San Diego State's Tami Nguyen would come out on top, edging Stojanovic 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Spinosa would fall as well as Aztecs' Kristin Buth picked up a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over the freshman.

Although the match was clinched, it was clear the score did not reflect the action on court. Morkel-Brink was leading in tight sets at the No. 4 spot, while Oppinger stopped play in her match at a neck and neck score of 6-4, 2-6, 3-4.  

The Toreros return to action in their final match of the regular season versus conference foe No. 64 Brigham-Young. The Toreros match-up at home against the Cougars this Saturday, April 18^th at 10:00 a.m. -- PT.
