SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-14, 2-7 WCC) concluded their final regular season match against the No. 64 Brigham Young Cougars (10-12, 5-4 WCC) Saturday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The Toreros endured yet another neck and neck match that was decided by a thrilling third-set tiebreaker. Although the match did not go the Toreros' way, the squad competed strong.

In doubles play, the Toreros came out the gate with fire. Going up against a tough Cougar line-up, the Toreros withheld their edge as juniors Marta Stojanovic and Shani Blecher picked up the set of the day. The pair defeated Cougars' Nicolette Tran and Savannah Ware 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. With the match even on court one, junior Mikayla Morkel-Brink and sophomore Janine Koleta clinched -- defeating BYU's Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood 6-4.

While the Cougars answered with a victory at the No. 4 spot in singles, the Toreros would not give up. Freshman Drew Spinosa cruised past Cougars' Nicolette Tran in a straight-set decision at the No. 2 spot to take the lead back for the Toreros. Stojanovic followed that up with a solid 7-6(2), 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot against Brigham Young's Meghan Sheehan-Dizon.

However, Cougars' Erica Valimaki bounced back for BYU getting a 7-6(3), 6-0 win against Koleta on court six. BYU's Morgan Anderson-Littlewood used that momentum as well to defeat Blecher 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot.

At 3-3, the Toreros would find themselves in a familiar situation. Junior Dana Oppinger came back from a set down to take the match to a deciding third-set tiebreaker. With the momentum going back and forth, it was Cougars' Toby Miclat who pulled out the victory and the match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5).

The Toreros look ahead to the West Coast Conference Championships beginning Wednesday, April 22nd at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
