MORAGA, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's tennis team (2-10, 1-4 WCC) fell short against in their first road match of the weekend Friday afternoon at the Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif. The Toreros could not slow the top-ranked Saint Mary's Gaels as they continue to deal with a short-handed squad.

The doubles play from Gaels proved to be too solid for the Toreros as the day commenced. Gaels' Kareena Manji and Jamie Pawid got on the board first with a win at the No. 3 spot. Although junior Marta Stojanovic and Mikayla Morkel-Brink were neck and neck at the No. 2 spot, the Gaels clinched after a 6-2 decision against junior Dana Oppinger and freshman Drew Spinosa.

Spinosa, who has the team-highest wins in singles, was unable to find her groove in singles play. The Gaels' Jamie Pawid came out the gate strong knocking off Spinosa 6-3, 6-2. As Saint Mary's grabbed a point at the No. 6 spot, Emma Critser of the Gaels secured the match -- taking down sophomore Janine Koleta 6-1, 6-2.  

With the match decided, the remaining Toreros competed well -- battling out their matches until the very end. Oppinger was narrowly ousted by Gaels' Catherine Leduc 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot, while Stojanovic fell to Jana McCord in a third set super tiebreaker 11-9.

The Toreros get a quick night of rest as they prepare to take on the Pacific Tigers Saturday, April 4^th. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. -- PT.
