Toreros' season comes to a close

(Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) - The USD men's golf season came to an end today as they finished in a tie for 10th at the NCAA San Diego Golf Regional played at The Farms Golf Club (par 72, yardage 6,947). Oklahoma was the runaway winner with their 21-under par total of 843. Advancing to Nationals with them will be Arizona State (863, -1), Georgia Tech (869, +5), Georgia (870, +6) and Virginia (874, +10).

ASU's Jon Rahm won medalist honors with his 10-under par total of 206 (73-64-69). This was Rahm's seventh win as a Sun Devil moving him into the 3rd spot all-time behind Phil Mickelson (16) and Billy Mayfair (8). Gudmundur Kristjansson of East Tennessee State was the lone individual that advances to Nationals after he posted a 3-under par total of 213 (69-71-73). He edged out Grant Bennett of Wichita State and Perry Cohen of Saint Mary's by one stroke.

The USD Toreros started the day in 9th place and just seven strokes back of the coveted fifth team spot for advancing to Nationals. San Diego shot a final day team score of 297 and finished the three-day tournament with a 25-over par total of 889 to tie with Idaho. Today the Toreros were paced by Alex Chiarella who fired an even par 72, and freshman Regan Kilpatrick who carded his second straight 73. Chiarella finished the regional as USD's top finisher with a tie for 29th at 222 (73-77-72). He was followed by teammates Grant Forrest (T36 at 223, 74-72-77), Kilpatrick (T40 at 224, 78-73-73), Mathias Dahl (T49 at 225, 76-73-76) and Colin Pearson (T61 at 230, 74-80-76). The event closes out the Torero careers for seniors Grant Forrest and Mathias Dahl.

This marked the second time that the University of San Diego hosted an NCAA Regional at The Farms Golf Club - the first time came in 2011.
