(Plovdiv, Bulgaria) - The Plovdiv regatta course in Bulgaria gave rowers a unique perspective for this year's World Rowing U 23 Championships. With the water level just 20cm below the road level, rowers, coaches and fans alike were all on the same level. Today more heats were held as the regatta continued into day two of competition. In fair conditions of barely any wind and hot, dry heat in the low 30's degrees Celsius, the under-23 competitors worked towards moving into the next round of competition.

USD's Megan Goodman (Pleasanton, Calif.) teamed up with Harvard's Mary Carmack (Veazie, Maine) to represent the USA in the Women's Double Sculls (BW2x). Goodman and Carmack competed in the third and final heat which included international powers the Netherlands and Romania. The USA duo were in fourth place at the 1500 meter mark but were edged out by Denmark over the final 500 meters. Final times for Heat 3 were The Netherlands (7:04.54), Romania (7:07.19), Belarus (7:18.52), Denmark (7:31.84) and USA (7:34.40).

The top three teams from each of the three heats advanced (New Zealand, Hungary, Poland, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Romania, Belarus). USA's Goodman and Carmack will be one of six boats competing in tomorrow's Repechage heat.
