SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" Behind a gritty defensive performance, the USD women's soccer team (1-6-2) played Oregon State (4-1-3) to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium. Despite being outshot 20-4, McKenna Tollack at the Torero defense pitched their second shutout of the season.

The Toreros only had one shot on goal, which didn't come until the 104th minute. The Beavers had 12 shots on frame, but couldn't get any past Tollack, who was making her second start of the season.

The first half was evenly-matched with neither team creating a scoring opportunity. However, the Beavers put the pressure on USD in the early moments in the second half. They had four shots in a one-minute span in the 58th minute. First Mariah Roggow couldn't convert on a cross and then shortly after Nikki Faris' shot bounced off the post and was cleared by the USD defense. The Beavers attempted seven shots in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

In the 68th minute, Julia Sherwood sent a cross in from the left endline to Nikki Pappalardo, but her header went over the crossbar.

In the 87th minute, Toni Malone almost scored but Tollack made a leaping save to tap the ball up and over the crossbar.

The Toreros best opportunity came in the 104th minute when Tori Walker's sent in a cross to Maggie Ghotbi. She took a touch, but OSU's keeper, Bella Geist, jumped on the ball before Ghotbi could get a clean look.

McKenna Tollack had a career-high 12 saves in her first shutout of the season. The Beavers' Bella Geist had one save in her fourth shutout.

The Toreros return to action on Friday when they host Cal State Northridge at 5:00 p.m.
