Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 22 ranked University of San Diego Men's Tennis team started their season with a pair of victories on Saturday.

In the morning session USD topped the No. 68 UC Irvine Anteaters by a final score of 4-1.

In doubles play No. 7 Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek earned a 6-4 win over UCI's Jon Poon and Justin Agbayni. Joshua Page and Uros Petronijevic also earned a 6-4 victory over Tyler Pham and Jon Hammel. Irvine did best USD pair Romain Kalaydjian and Alex Araouzos with Sebastian Heim and Nico Mertens by a score of 6-2.

No. 34 Jordan Angus clinched USD's first win of the season with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Mertens in singles play. In a match of ranked opponents it was Irvine's No. 119 Sebastian Heim getting the best of No. 35 Petronijevic 6-2, 6-2.

Page picked up the Toreros first point in a 6-4, 7-5 match against Agbayni. Vittek earned a point after a 7-6(1), 6-2 win over Luca Marquard. No. 82 Kalaydjian and Araouzos left their matches un-fished and tied at one set apiece.

Against the UC San Diego Tritons the Toreros secured a 4-0 victory with the team only competing in singles play. Page again picked up USD's first point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Horea Porutiu.

Petronijevic defeated Axel Bouillin in the one spot 6-2, 6-1. Vittek earned a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Justin Zhang in the three spot while Araouzos clinched the victory in the five spot after topping Alexandre Miaule.

The Toreros will be in Durham, N.C. next Saturday to face the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores at the ITA Kick-off Weekend.
