SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Sophomore forward Summer Mason's goal in the 66th minute of action, lifted the University of San Diego women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 win over Santa Clara University Saturday evening in a West Coast Conference match at Torero Stadium.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 7-4-1 overall, remain perfect in WCC play at 2-0-0, and have now won three consecutive matches, and four of their last five. With the loss, the Broncos, fall to 3-5-4 overall, and 0-1-1 in the WCC.

After both teams battled through a scoreless first half, it was San Diego who was able to make something happen offensively in the second half. In the 66th minute of action, the Toreros took control of a loose ball just outside the SCU goal box, and Rachel Conners slipped the ball to Mason, and Mason in turn took a few touches, and managed to slip the ball past a diving SCU goalkeeper, to give USD the 1-0 win.

Both teams had their fair share of chances to score, and one of SCU's came in the 41st minute of play, as Jenna Roering got loose in the USD goal box, and fired off a rocket shot, but San Diego' freshman goal keeper Amber Michel was there to block the shot, only the rebound found the feet of Brittany Ambrose, and she then hit a one-timer right back to Michel, but Michel was too good tonight, and recorded the save, to keep the Broncos off the board.

San Diego was out shot by the Broncos 12-8, and SCU held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Michel picked up the win in goal for USD, as she allowed no goals and recorded eight saves. SCU's Melissa Lowder was saddled with the loss, as she allowed one goal and recorded five saves.

San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they travel to Play Pepperdine University in a 3 p.m. match in Malibu.
