The Cougars got on the scoreboard first, as in the 10th minute of action, Madie Lyons passed the ball to Elena Medeiros, who tapped the ball over to Michele Vasconcelos, and she hit a one-timer into the back of the net, to give BYU a 1-0 lead.
Then in the second half, head coach Ada Greenwood made some key adjustments, and USD dominated the time of possession over the first 20 minutes of play, keeping the ball on the BYU side of the field, and nearly equalized the score in the 54th minute. Summer Mason got loose in the goal box, and fired off a shot at the top of the goal box, only the ball had a little too much force on it, and just went over the crossbar, much to the relief of the Cougars.

San Diego didn't just fade away, as in the 89th minute of play, the Toreros cut the lead in half. Tara Meier got the ball, sent it to Summer Mason, who then tapped the ball over to Julia Sherwood, and she put he ball into the goal to give USD some hope, and moved the score to its final of 2-1.
USD simply ran out of time, as the Cougars managed to hold on for the last almost 2 minutes to claim the win.
