MALIBU, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end, with a 2-0 loss to No. 25 Pepperdine University Thursday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 7-5-1 overall, and 2-1-0 in the WCC. With the win, the Waves improve to 7-3-3 overall, and 2-0-1 in the WCC.

Pepperdine wasted no time in scoring, as in the eighth minute of action, Hailey Stemberg took control of the ball about 25 yards out of the USD goal box, took a few touches, then fired of a shot from about 20 yards out, and chipped the ball over the head of the USD goalkeeper, to give the Waves a 1-0 lead.

San Diego did have a few good scoring opportunities not go its way, as in the 10th minute of action, Jacqueline Altschuld took a corner kick for USD, and she skied the ball into a crowded goal box, where Julia Sherwood was there to fire off a shot, that was blocked, to keep the Toreros off the scoreboard.

In the 70th minute of play, USD had another good scoring opportunity, as Altschuld found the ball just outside the goal box on the right side, managed to split a pair of defenders, then dribbled to the end line, send a cross that went passed a diving Pepperdine goalkeeper, and nearly got to a Summer Mason, but a Waves defender managed to redirect it out of bounds, to the left of the goal, again keeping the Toreros off the scoreboard.

Pepperdine then put the match out of reach in the 86th minute of play, as Nicole Leggio took control of the ball near midfield, and sent a through ball to a streaking Katy Byrn, and she took one touch, and went by the USD goalkeeper, who came out of the box to defend it, and then scored the ball from the top of the box, to put the match at its final of 2-0.

The Waves outshot the Toreros12-4, but USD did hold a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Amber Michel was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed two goals, and recorded five saves. Pepperdine's Hannah Seabert picked up the win in goal, as she allowed no goals and recorded two saves.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Loyola Marymount to take on the league-leaders in a 7 p.m. match.
