SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior point guard Cori Woodward's last second jumper lifted the University of San Diego women's basketball team to a thrilling 73-71 win over Saint Mary's College Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With 15 seconds left in the game, USD's Caroline Buhr hit a free-throw to give USD a 71-68 lead. After a Gael timeout, SMC's Sydney Raggion lobbed up a prayer of a 3-pointer that banked in, to tie things up with just five seconds left. San Diego then quickly inbounded the ball, and Woodward dribbled the length of the court, and pulled up on the right side of the free throw line and hit a jumper, as time expired, to give USD the victory.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 7-5 overall, and even up their WCC record at 1-1, while also snapping a six-game losing streak to the Gaels. With the loss, SMC falls to 6-7 on the season, and 1-1 in the WCC.

Aubrey Ward-El paced the USD offense with a career-high and game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, while pulling down five rebounds, and adding in three assists. Woodward scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, while Sydney Williams had 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, and Katherine Hamilton was the fourth USD player in double figures with 12 points.

As a team, USD shot 46% from the field, while the Gaels shot slightly better at 49%. USD out rebounded the Gaels 32-30, and USD committed 20 turnovers, while SMC had 19 turnovers.

For the Gaels, Shannon Mouldin led the offense with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, while Stella Beck added in 14 points before fouling out of the game. Mouldin also led the rebounding effort for the Gales with seven.

San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they head up to Stockton for a 7 p.m. WCC game against the Pacific Tigers.
