TEMPE, Ariz. â€" The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-3) lost to No. 27 Arizona State (4-1) 7-0 on Saturday.
The Toreros fell behind quickly after Dana Oppinger and Drew Spinosa dropped a 6-1 match against the Sun Devil's No. 54 Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne. In the No. 2 spot, Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic were defeated by Kassidy Jump and Sammi Hampton 6-2.
After Arizona State clinched the point Maria-Paula Torres and Colomba DiFilippo's 5-3 match against Desirae Krawczyk and Gussie O'Sullivan was abandoned.
In singles play Oppinger retired from a 6-1, 2-1 match against Panoho allowing ASU to claim a 2-0 lead. Spinosa was topped in the No. 2 spot by No. 98 Jump 6-0, 6-1. Stojanovic pushed No. 36 Krawczyk in a 6-3, 6-3 match but ultimately fell short and the Sun Devil's clinched the victory.
To complete play Torres finished a 6-1, 7-5 match against Stephanie Vlad. Blecher lost a 6-2, 7-5 match to Hampton in the No. 5 spot. DiFilippo was beat 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in a meeting with O'Sullivan.
The Toreros will be back at home next weekend when they face No. 65 Hawaii on Thursday at 1:30 pm. USD will resume conference play on Saturday when they host Santa Clara.
