LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 16 University of San Diego men's tennis team fell 7-0 to the No. 9 UCLA Bruins Friday in Los Angeles.

Head Coach Ryan Keckley was impressed with the UCLA team right out of the gate.

"This UCLA team was hungry to prove exactly who they are." Keckley said. "They took it to us. We were on our heels the majority of the match and the scores reflect that."

The Bruins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after doubles play. In the No. 2 spot Joshua Page and Uros Petronijevic fell 6-3 to UCLA's Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell. No. 7 Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek suffered their first loss of the season in a tightly contested 6-4 match against Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki. Romain Kalaydjian and Jaan Kononov led Gage Brymer and Austin Rapp 5-4 but the match was abandoned once UCLA secured the point.

In singles play the Toreros fell behind after Sell topped No. 82 Romain Kalaydjian 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot. No. 34 Angus was in a battle against No. 48 Redlicki but ultimately lost 6-1, 6-3 in the two-spot. Kononov fell in straight-sets 6-3, 6-3 to Di Giulio.

No. 35 Petronijevic forced three sets in the top spot against McDonald but suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 defeat. Vittek dropped the first set to Brymer 6-0 but rebounded in the second with a 6-4 win. Brymer eventually won the point with a 6-2 victory in the third set. Page had a gritty performance against No. 98 Logan Staggs but was not able to pull out the victory, the matched ended 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

"We have a lot of work to do." Keckley added. "This team learned something today and I do believe we will be a better squad because of it."

The Toreros will have to rebound quickly as they travel to Chalottesville, Va. next Friday to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
