SAN DIEGO, Calif, - The match between the University of San Diego Toreros and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders ended in 2-2 tie after the remainder of play was rained out on Friday.

Freshman Maria-Paula Torres starred for the Toreros as she dominated Giulia Squadrin 6-2, 6-2 in singles play to score USD's first point. The Lima, Peru native was the only Torero to win her match in straight sets.

Dana Oppinger posted another strong performance in the No. 3 spot on her way to a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory over the Blue Raiders' Luisa Zirilli. Middle Tennessee's singles point came from a 6-4, 6-2 Brittany Huxley win over Marta Stojanovic.

Drew Spinosa, Colomba DiFilippo and Sophia Chow were all locked in three-set battles with their opponents before the rains came.

Play began under blue skies as the Toreros and Blue Raiders dueled in doubles play. Huxley and Squadrin finished with a 6-3 win over Oppinger and Spinosa before Costanza Magazzini and Alory Pereira clinched the Middle Tennessee point 6-4 against Torres and DiFilippo.

The Toreos will face conference opponent Saint Mary's tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Gaels are 10-7 all-time against USD but have started the season with a record of 2-7.
