Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 34 Toreros (11-7) cruised to a 4-0 victory today over the No. 36 Princeton Tigers (12-6) at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center on Saturday. Head Coach Ryan Keckley's team did not drop a set in singles play as the top of his line up sealed the victory with three straight-sets victories.

"I am really proud of the effort the guys displayed today. It's never easy bouncing back in less than 24 hours after a disappointing finish the day before." Keckley said. "These kind of matches, against a feisty squad like Princeton, always define a team."

Senior captain No. 53 Jordan Angus was locked in a tight match with the Tigers' Thomas Colautti on the No. 2 court while teammates No. 26 Uros Petronijevic and Filip Vittek handled their opponents. Petronijevic earned the Toreros' first singles point 6-4, 6-3 over Princetons' top contender Diego Vives.

Vittek continues to be a top performer for the Toreros with a 12-4 record in dual match play. Saturday, the USD junior earned his first defeat of a ranked player this season as he coasted to a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 104 Alexander Day.

With San Diego up 3-0 the race was on to see which Torero would clinch the victory. No. 118 Romain Kalaydjian led Joshua Yablon 7-5, 4-1 on court four when play was concluded while Jaan Kononov and Alexandros Araouzos also held leads in the five and six spots.

However it was Angus who would not be denied the match point just one day after letting a match slip away. After taking the first set 6-3, Angus, was challenged by Colautti in the second set. The Princeton junior went up 6-5 before the Torero senior rallied to clinch the 6-3, 7-6(5) victory.

"I am happy to say we played a complete match and left feeling very satisfied with our level. Princeton has a tremendous group of guys who are well coached and I knew we would be in for a fight." Keckley added after the match.

In doubles play San Diego controlled the action on courts one and three with matching 6-4 victories. Petronijevic and Vittek earned their sixth win in the No. 1 doubles spot when they dispatched tigers Day and Luke Gamble. Angus and Kononov tallied their second win in as many matches together over Kial Kaiser and Colautti. Princeton's lone victory came in the No. 2 doubles spot.

The Toreros will open up WCC play next Friday as they host the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m. San Diego is defending an 18-game conference winning streak after completing the last two seasons with perfect 9-0 records on their way to two conference championships.

Keckley feels that the Toreros are up to the challenges conference play has in store.

"I'm very pleased with where we are at as a program and am excited to start the WCC season this coming week in San Diego!"
