Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's tennis team (7-6, 4-2 WCC) earned a thrilling victory at the University of Portland (4-8, 1-1 WCC) on Saturday in Portland, Ore.

San Diego started the day with strong performances in doubles play in the No. 2 and 3 spots. Marta Stojanovic and Maria-Paula Torres beat Emily Gould and Radina Dimitrova 6-3 on court two. It was their first win as doubles partners. In the three spot, it was Shani Blecher and Colomba DiFilippo sealing the point for the Toreros with a 6-3 defeat of Tori Troesch and Tatia Grigoryan.

The Toreros had to rally in singles competition after the Pilots earned a victory in the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Drew Spinosa answered the call in the No. 3 singles match with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win over Maja Mladenovic. Spinosa's victory gave USD a 2-1 lead but the Pilots would take the next two singles points.

With San Diego trailing 3-2 Sophia Chow and Colomba DiFilippo had to come up big for the Toreros. Chow, a freshman, had an outstanding match on her way to a 7-6, 6-4 win over Saroop Dhatt. DiFilippo outlasted Troesch to earn the matches' final point and the Toreros' fourth conference victory of the season. The 7-5, 7-6 victory was DiFilippo's team-leading ninth dual match victory this season.

The Toreros will be off until Friday April 8, when they return home to face the University of San Francisco at 1:30 p.m. It will be their final home match of the season.
