SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 31 University of San Diego men's tennis team (17-7, 5-0 WCC) earned a 7-0 victory over the No. 66 Loyola Marymount Lions (9-9, 2-4 WCC) on Saturday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. It is the 23rd consecutive conference victory for the Toreros.
Uros Petronijevic and Filip Vittek set the tone for the Toreros as the duo earned a 6-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles spot. Petronijevic and Vittek are now 9-2 in dula matches this season. Jordan Angus and Joshua Page secured the point on the No. 2 court with a 7-5 win over Charles Boyce and Cristobal Rivera.
No. 57 Petronijevic carried over the momentum in singles play where he cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over the Lions' Boyce. It is the senior's 81st victory as a Torero. Romain Kalaydjian was the next player to earn a point for San Diego in the No. 5 spot. The Frenchman topped LMU's Lukas Moenter 6-4, 6-2 to put the Toreros up 3-0.
Filip Vittek sealed the match with his 6-3, 7-6(4) defeat of Errol Smith. It is the junior's 16th win in dual match play and his 21st win overall. As play continued so did the Toreros' dominance. Alex Araouzos streatched his winning streak to six with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Luke Bohuslav. No. 63 Angus picked up his 10th dual match victory 7-6(6), 6-4 over Rivera in the No. 2 spot. Lastly Jaan Kononov made it a clean sweep as he outlasted Joat Farah 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 on court No. 4.
The Toreros will continue WCC play tomorrow against the No. 56 Pepperdine Waves (10-9, 4-2 WCC) at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. San Diego has won the last four meetings between the schools while the Waves hold a 29-7 advantage all-time. Play starts at 1p.m.
