STOCKTON, Calif. â€" The Toreros (19-26, 5-4) completed a three game sweep at Pacific with an 11-2 win in five innings Sunday afternoon. Kailey Hill, Tatum Schultz, and Mary Grabowski each had three hits and the team had a season-high 18. During the three game sweep, the Toreros had 42 hits and hit .452 as a team.
After starting WCC play 0-3, the Toreros have won five of their last six conference game. Their 5-4 record puts them in a tie for third. The Toreros have two more series left; on the road at Santa Clara (7-35, 2-4), before closing out the season at home against first place BYU (27-17, 4-2), who swept Saint Mary's over the weekend.
The Toreros scored three runs in the top of the first inning. After Taylor Spence and Kailey Hill hit back-to-back singles, Lauren Kane blasted a three run home run to left field. Kane leads the Toreros with eight home runs and 35 RBI.
The Tigers responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. They scored on a Melanie Habib double to center and a Rachel Sellers RBI single.
In the third inning after a Tatum Schultz double, Mary Grabowski picked up a RBI single to give the Toreros a 4-2 lead. Grabowski is hitting .500 through the first nine WCC games.
After the first two Toreros were retired in the fourth inning, the Toreros rallied to score four runs on seven hits. With runners on second and third, Kane delivered again with a RBI single through the left side to plate Taylor Spence. Two batters later, Danielle Mavridis hit a RBI single with the bases loaded. Lauren Berriatua followed her with another RBI single, which game USD an 8-2 lead.
The Toreros put the game out of reach in the fifth inning with three more runs, highlighted by a Kailey Hill two run home run.
Megan Sabbatini (12-15) picked up her third win of the series. After allowing three hits and two runs in the first inning, Sabbatini pitched four innings of one-hit shutout ball the rest of the way.
The Toreros are back on the road for another WCC series next weekend, taking on Santa Clara (7-35, 2-4) beginning with a Saturday doubleheader (12:00 p.m.)
