LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 9 UCLA scored two second half goals to defeat the University of San Diego women's soccer team, 3-1, Sunday evening in a non-conference match at Drake Stadium.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 3-3-1 overall, and with the win, the Bruins improve to 4-2-0 overall.
The Bruins got on the scoreboard first, as in the 41st minute of action, Darian Jenkins sent a cross in front of the goal, where Jessie Felming was there to hit a one-timer into the back of the net.
Shortly into the second half, USD found themselves back on even terms with the Bruins, as in the 49th minute of action, Kelley Carusa sent a cross into the goal box, where Julia Sherwood was able to redirect it with a header over the goalie, and into the back of the next, moving the score to 1-1.
UCLA then scored the game-winner in the 58th minute of action, as Jenkins then scored off a cross from Fleming, and was able to sneak it into the goal, to move the score to 2-1.
The Bruins then scored the final goal in the 82nd minute, to put the match at its final of 3-1.
USD was outshot 14-7, but held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Amber Michel was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed three goals and recorded two saves. Her counterpart, Teagan Micah, picked up the win, as she allowed one goal and recorded four saves.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they travel to Long Beach State, to take on the 49ers in a 7 p.m. match.
