SAN DIEGO, Calif. - A pair of first half goals by Jacqueline Altschuld and Rachel Conners lifted the University of San Diego women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-0 win over cross-town rival San Diego State Friday evening in a non-conference match at Torero Stadium.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 2-2-0 overall, while the Aztecs have been shut out for a third consecutive game, falling to 0-3-0 overall.
USD scored the only goal they would need in the 21st minute of action, as Conners took the ball near the top of the box, and sent a cross to Altschuld. Altschuld then took one touch and fired off a shot into the back of the net, to give USD the 1-0 lead.
San Diego then kept the momentum going, as in the 27th minute of play, Conners would be on the receiving end of a pass, as Kelley Carusa skied the ball over to Conners, and she hit a one-timer into the back of the net, to put the match at its final of 2-0.
USD outshot the Aztecs 11-10, and both teams had five corner kicks apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Amber Michel picked up her second shutout of the season, as she allowed no goals and recorded six saves. Her counterpart, Gabby English, was saddled with the loss for the Aztecs, as she allowed two goals and recorded two saves.
The Toreros will return to action on Sunday, as they host CSUN in a 5 p.m. non-conference match at Torero Stadium.
