NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- The USD men's soccer team (3-2-3) tied CSUN 1-1 on the road Thursday evening. The Toreros allowed a PK in the 25th minute, but then came back to tie the match in the 67th minute on Allen Luhrs' first goal of his USD career.
CSUN scored their first goal after Torero goalkeeper Thomas Olsen took down Dre Deas in the box in the 26th minute to set up a PK and earn himself a caution. The Matadors' Juan Samayoa converted the kick to give CSUN a 1-0 lead. This is the second consecutive match Olsen has received a yellow card.
The Toreros scored the equalizer in the 67th minute. Michael Turner had his shot blocked but Allen Luhrs collected his rebound and beat the CSUN keeper to the right post. This was the first USD goal for Luhrs, the San Diego Mesa College transfer.
The Toreros had a couple opportunities in the final ten minutes of regulation. In the 85th minute, Merlin Hoeckendorff had shot that took a diving save by the CSUN keeper.
Just a few minutes later Phillip Luedecke had a one-on-one chance, but couldn't convert, sending the match to extra time where it would end as a 1-1 draw.
The Toreros outshot the Matadors 17-5 and had 10 corners to CSUN's two.
Olsen (2-1-3) finished the match with two saves.
The Toreros return to San Diego for a match at cross-town rival No. 11 San Diego State Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
