SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's Jill Barta hit a last second prayer of a shot to lift the Zags to a 57-55 win over the University of San Diego women's basketball team Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With time winding down, and the game knotted at 55-all, the Zags point guard Laura Stockton, squeezed between two USD defenders, slipped the ball to Barta, who then just threw up the ball as time expired, and the ball found its way into the basket to give GU the stunning victory.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 9-10 overall, move to 3-6 in the WCC, and they saw their three-game winning streak against the Zags come to an end. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 16-4 overall and move to 7-2 in the WCC.

Aubrey Ward-El led the Torero offense this evening, a she scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, while also pulling down six rebounds. This now marks four consecutive games Ward-El has scored in double figures. Katherine Hamilton was the only other Torero in double figures, as she scored 12 points on 3-of-13 shooting from the field, including hitting 6-of-9 free throws. Cori Woodward recorded six assists and added in eight points, while Caroline Buhr recorded a team-best nine rebounds.

As a team, USD shot 36.5% from the field, while GU shot 41.0%. The Toreros out rebounded the Bulldogs 39-35, but USD committed 13 turnovers, to Gonzaga's 10.

For the Zags, Stockton led the way with a team-best 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field, while also recording five rebounds, and dishing out two assists and she had a pair of steals. No other GU player scored in double figures.

USD will return to action on Saturday, as they host Portland in a 2 p.m. WCC game inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
