Toreros Pull Away From Portland, 57-40

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a career-high 20 points from junior forward Sydney Williams, the University of San Diego women's basketball team pulled away from the University of Portland, to claim a 57-40 win over the Pilots Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the win, the Toreros even up their overall record at 10-10, and they move their WCC record to 4-6 on the season. With the loss, the Pilots fall to 4-17 overall, and move to 2-8 in the WCC.

Williams scored her 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, while also pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists. Patricia Brossmann was the only other Torero to record double digits, as she scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while pulling down a team-leading eight rebounds.

As a team, USD shot 43.6% from the field, while the Pilots shot 33.3% from the floor. USD out rebounded the Pilots 36-34, and Portland committed 16 turnovers, to San Diego's 14.

For the Pilots, Kaylie Van Loo led the way with a team-best 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. Ashley Gray recorded a team-leading 10 rebounds, and Julie Spencer added in eight points.

The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head up to Los Angeles for a 7 p.m. WCC game against the Loyola Marymount University Lions.
