Pepperdine Deals USD a 55-42 Loss

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior forward Sydney Williams scored a season-high 16 points, but it wasn't enough, as the University of San Diego women's basketball team dropped a 55-42 decision to Pepperdine University Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 7-7 overall, and move to 1-3 in the WCC. With the win, the Waves improve to 4-11 overall, and move to 2-2 in the WCC.

Williams led the Toreros with her 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, while pulling down three rebounds and recording two steals. Cori Woodward was the only other player in double figures, as she recorded 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field, and recorded four assists. This marked the fifth consecutive game that Woodward has scored in double figures.

As a team, USD shot 28.6% from the field, while Pepperdine shot 37.3%. The Waves out rebounded the Toreros 41-34, but USD committed 14 turnovers, to Pepperdine's 18.

For the Waves, Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led the way with a game-high 19 points, on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while also pulling down 11 rebounds to post a double-double. Allie Green also scored in double figures, as she had 12 on 4-of-15 shooting from the field, while Paige Fecske added in 10 points.

San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they travel to the Bay Area to take on the Santa Clara Broncos in a 7 p.m. WCC game inside the Leavey Center.
