Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - USD played University of Hawaii Sunday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The Toreros defeated the Rainbows in a blow out 7-0 victory.

USD quickly clinched the doubles point after the No. 1 and No. 3 teams won their matches 6-0. Finishing first at the No. 3 spot, Alexandros Araouzos and Joshua Page defeated Fabian Woehrl and Ruben Blattner 6-0. Finishing second was the No. 1 team of Filip Vittek and Guus Koevermans. They defeated Igor Kolaric and Felix Albert in another 6-0 decision.

"There was a sense of urgency on the court today," said Head Coach Ryan Keckley. "We got off to a solid start in doubles and kept the momentum rolling into singles. The intensity and focus was there from the beginning for each team. That's what propelled us into our singles play."

In singles play the San Diego team came out undefeated. Osorio was the first to finish in the No. 3 spot with a score of 6-1, 6-3.

"Gui was the first one off the courts in singles," said Coach Keckley. "He has done a tremendous job for us this year. He handles himself so well on court and takes care of his business. He's been a huge addition to this team."

At the No. 5 position, Araouzos defeated Blattner in a 7-5, 6-0 decision. In the No. 4 spot, Gamerov beat Woehrl 6-2, 6-4.

Next to finish was Guus Koevermans, who played at the No. 1 position. He defeated UH's No. 1 Albert with a score of 6-3, 6-3. Page finished next in the No. 2 spot, bringing down Kolaric 6-3, 6-4. Last to finish was Garrett Kurtz who played in the No. 6 position. In that final match Kurtz defeated Eric Kenneth 7-6 (5), 3-6, 10-2.

"I was really proud of Garrett for the way he fought in singles," said Coach Keckley. "Wearing that uniform in a dual match for the first time is not the easiest. As the last match on court and with all eyes on him, he really turned it on to seal the match 7-0."

The Toreros have a doubleheader next Saturday, February 25. They will play UC Irvine at 10 a.m. and Saint Mary's at 2 p.m. at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
