PORTLAND, Ore. â€" The USD women's basketball team (13-15, 7-11) finished the regular season with a 72-54 win at Portland Saturday afternoon. Caroline Buhr tied her career-high with 17 points and hauled in eight rebounds.
The Toreros will face Portland again on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the first round of the WCC Championships at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The winner will face the No. 2 seed BYU Friday at 2:00 p.m. The game will be aired on BYUtv and TheW.tv.
After a slow start, the Toreros pulled away in the second quarter with an 11-0 run and never trailed again. They would score 28 second quarter points on 12-for-15 shooting with assists coming on 10 of those baskets.
The Toreros held a 38-23 lead at half, with Cori Woodward leading the way with 12 points.
The Torero lead would grow to as much as 24 points in the fourth quarter.
The Toreros held the Pilots to 31 percent shooting (18-for-59) from the floor and limited them to just three three-pointers on 19 attempts. USD shot 45 percent (25-for-56) and made 19 free throws.
Aside from Buhr's 17 points, Woodward scored 14 with 12 coming in the first half. Aubrey Ward-El had ten points and Patricia Brossmann collected eight rebounds and scored seven points.
