PROVO, Utah - The Toreros fell to Brigham Young University 4-0 Saturday afternoon. BYU improved to 11-8 (4-0 WCC) and San Diego fell to 9-7 (1-1 WCC).

"This match was entirely on me as coach," said Head Coach Ryan Keckley. "We've played a lot of tennis the past two weeks and we are a little bruised and battered. We asked a lot of them today and they delivered, just not enough when it counted the most."

In doubles play, BYU's Keaton Cullimore and John Pearce defeated the star USD doubles team of Filip Vittek and Joshua Page, 6-2. Gui Osorio and Joel Gamerov also lost their match to Jacob Sullivan and Aidan Carrazedo 6-4. With the two wins, BYU clinched the doubles point.

"The conditions in Provo are as tough as we will encounter all season long," said Coach Keckley. "We handled the crowd, the atmosphere and the altitude well, we just could not execute our strategy well enough."

In singles play the Toreros lost the first three points, clinching the win for the Cougars. Joshua Page was defeated by Matthew Pearce on court three, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, Gui Osorio lost his match to Jacob Sullivan 6-2, 6-2. And last to finish their match was Guus Koevermans and John Pearce. Pearce defeated Koevermans in a 6-4, 6-4 decision. With the four points needed to clinch the win for BYU, both teams suspended play.

"These boys were outside their comfort zone and battled until the end as a group," said Coach Keckley. "We fought as hard as I have seen this team fight, but unfortunately we came up short. We will take some much needed time off this week and get back to work to prepare for more upcoming WCC action."

The Toreros pick up play against Gonzaga Friday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m.
